In the moring we woke up and it was raining cats and dogs. :) After a very greasy and truthfully disgusting breakfast, we visited the Route 66 Museum in Clinton. Very very friendly staff!
We drove on through the great (and somewhat boring) plains and crossed over into
Texas. Lots of cows and grass. Thus we were happy for the welcome distraction that was the Devil's Rope Museum. What was it about? Well y'all, it was the museum about the history of the barbed wire. Yep. And we learned that its invention meant the doom for the cowboys. They could no longer drive the cattle across fenceless plains,
so they settled and became Chuck Norris Texas ranchers. Ha, bet ya didn't know that :) We had lunch at a typical Texas bar b q place where we were greeted with a "How y'all doin' today, folks?" by a waitress with a "Steckdousefrisur" and bit farewell with a "y'all take care now". Warm Texas charme, which led Christine to have her first burger on this trip. Well done.
When we arrived in Amarillo, we thought we'd go for a walk in the city center. That's when we were reminded that one doesn't go for a walk in those deep American cities. There in nothing to do, hardly any side walks to walk on. So we went for a drink in a biker bar...hello Hells Angels again :)

After a good night sleep, we went to the Palo Duro Canyon Park. We were longing for some walking...but hey, it was raining...again. Not possible to walk when the rocks become as slippery as ice. So we drove through it. Pat needed a 'pit stop', but since there was a tarantula hiding in the urinal, his plan was cut short. :))

We drove on and left plain Texas (at least the bit where Route 66 is passing through) for beautiful, wild New Mexico.
