Saint­-Alexis-des-Monts...

We arrived here in Staint Alexis des Monts 4 days ago and had no mobile reception, that's why all your messages for Patrick's birthday didn't get through. But thanks anyway :)

The hotel lies in an idyllic forest, overlooking an even more idyllic lake...Winnetu says hello :) So we did some horse riding (where Andrée overcame her fear of riding), some kayaking and canoeing (where we had to fight against the strong currents), some hiking (where we almost got eaten by a bear)...

We had a sureal experience watching black bears and their cubs, as well as racoons and beavers in their natural habitat. We even managed to feed the latter.

Now we are heading to Quebec...See you there :)

Upper Canada Village et Ottawa...

Nous voilà donc arrivés dans la partie francophone du Canada...Quel drôle d'accent!!! Tout le monde nous dit "bienvenus" (canadien pour "de rien" ou "service") donc, on se sent vraiment bien accueillis!!!
Après notre départ des 1000 Islands, nous sommes passés par le "Upper Canada Village", un sorte de musée open air interactif où Patrick a appris sa charge pour les durs jours à venir où nous serons confrontés à la pureté de la nature : traire les vaches! Il s'est montré vraiment talentueux.
Le village présnete le Canada d'il y a 130 ans. On y a vu une marmotte, des cochons noirs, des chevaux tirant une calèche et on y a gouté la Sarsparilla (une médecine ancienne contre le syphilis, mais bu aujourd'hui comme soda). Beau retour aux origines! Patrick dit : "Fréier war alles besser...Quetschen och!" :)

Ensuite nous avons continué notre voyage à Ottawa, capitale du Canada. Ville beaucoup influencé par l'Europe, ce que l'on peut deviner au style victorien du Parlement. Nous y avons passé une demie journée au musée des civilisations (absolument à recommander si jamais vous y passez et que vous aimeriez en savoir plus sur les premières nations du Canada) avant de savourer un bon burger au Zak's Diner (comme dans Grease!!!!).

Maintenant nous savourons la pluie des Laurentides auprès d'un lac à Sainte-Adèle :) Quel bonheur! À bientôt...

Gananoque...

Hello again :)
Our stay in Toronto was a short one (Abercrombie and Fitch and Music Garden) and we'll have to return one day to have a look at the REAL sights :) So we are now staying in Gananoque, a town in the thousand islands region. Today we had our first chill day since the journey began: sleeping late, doing laundry, swimming in the lake and in the pool (for those who didn't like the seaweed, right, Charlotte?:)), canoeing around the islands, reading and just relaxing in the sun! Beautiful day!

Niagara Falls

After having had to wait for 2 hours on the Canadian border, we finally arrived in Toronto after a 14-hour trip. Lots of interesting and noisy people on the train (a 15-month old baby girl, mother fighting with her teenage daughter...). Our taxi driver in Toronto was from Flensburg, Germany, and we think he was quite happy to speak a bit of German :)
The next day, we drove with Christine's family to Niagara Falls...Impressive!!! But a little bit to commercialised and busy. But nevertheless a breathtaking experience, something the pictures cannot really reflect. We also took part in the "fury of Niagara", a 4D theatre showwith lots of water and screaming to explain the origin of the falls. We finished the day with AWESOME fireworks :)
The following day, after queuing for an hour under the burning sun (we got more sunburned than during the whole year in Montpellier), we finally got on the "Maid of the Mist" and took a stunning journey into the falls. Wet, wet, wet...
An AWESOME music quiz kept us busy all the way on the highway to Toronto, that is when we were able to hear the music over Christine's mum's exciting shouts whenever we passed a REAL truck...:)

Bienvenue au Canada

Après une balade au Central Park, un tour guidé des sites de films et de séries télé (nous savons maintenant où se planquent Al Pacino, Goldie Hawn et Bruce Willis) et une soirée musicale "West side story", nous avons dû dire au revoir à la Grande Pomme. Pour finir ces quelques jours en beauté, nous avons goûté un rosé new yorkais chez Véronique et Marc (Merci encore:)) et finalement nous avons pris le train ce matin à 6h pour arriver sains et saufs à 20h30 à Toronto. Quel trajet!!! Demain, nous allons découvrir les Niagara Falls....

New York!!!

New York, New York...
After a second day in the big apple, we are already feeling tired :) . Yesterday, after arriving, we climbed the Empire State Building (just as King Kong did:) ) and walked through the streets of Manhattan. Today we went to see a Yankee game in the Bronx in the rain and looked at the lightboards in Times Square. Maybe we'll go to the movies tonight.
Can't upload pictures yet, but we'll do as soon as possible...

Almost there...

We are getting a little bit nervous. Hoping that we haven't forgotten anything before we are heading to New York tomorrow!!!!! We'll be on the 10.39 KLM flight (just in case :) ). Backpack is packed and hopefully it won't get lost during our connection in Amsterdam. Should we arrive safely in New York (!) we will try to get internet and update this blog with blabbering and pictures as soon as possible.

Encore 4 jours!!!! Nous profitons donc pour vous écrire quelques lignes avant notre grand départ :) Les bagages ne sont pas encore tout à fait prêts...pas du tout en fait.
