Mildura, the heat and the fruitflyless vinyards...

We left the Grampians National Park an headed straight north through vast plains towards Mildura, situated on the Murray River on the border with New South Wales.

On the way we came across a GIANT koala at the side of the road. Somewhat strange :)

When we arrived in Mildura, the heat that hit us when we got out of the car was alomst unbearable. 38 degrees...boah :) We tried to organise some canoeing, but apparently we are not meant to do that, because whenever we try to go canoeing, the organisers seem to be closed. So we went to look at aboriginal art and took a walk along the Murray River. It was very quiet on the streets since it was the time of the Melbourne Cup and everybody seemed to stay at home and watch it...

Leaving Mildura, we headed west into South Australia where Christine had to eat 4 apples or throw them into a quarantaine bin because we entered yet another fruit fly free zone...and this time, they checked. The whole car and all the bags. So, a good thing that we got rid of them. :)

The landscapes were ever changing. From golden grain fields to dry grey bushland and green vinyards. Just before arriving in Adelaide, we passed through the Barossa Valley, famous for its many wineries and German heritage.

On arrival in Adelaide, the weather had cooled down and we checked into our YHA.
